Is Your Netgear Router Modem Combo Not Working? Learn what to do next

Want seamless connectivity without adding up enough physical components? Get a Netgear cable modem router combo at your place and work seamlessly. It is a device with a combination of a WiFi router and a modem, which means that the device will work in both ways: router and modem.

With its cost-effective feature, this router modem combo serves as a gateway between your Internet Service Provider and various devices that are available within your network. So, it is cost-effective, less complex, and compatible.

But is your router modem combo not working properly? What should you do when your Netgear cable router-modem is not working properly?

Well, in this blog, we are going to address that.

There are certain things you can do when your router modem combo is not working properly. Keep reading to know the solution.

Check the Power Connections

  • Ensure that your Netgear router modem combo is properly connected to the power outlets and is turned on. Make sure that the cables are connected to the modem and other devices too.

Restart the Modem

  • Unplug the modem from the power outlet and wait for 30 seconds before plugging it in and turning it back on. Allow some time for the modem to reboot, roughly around 30 seconds.

Check for Service Outage

  • Contact the ISP provider to seek information about ongoing issues with the internet.

Update the Firmware

Update netgear firmware

Check whether there is any firmware update on the router modem combo. You can visit the Netgera website to check if there is any update to the firmware. Enter the model number and download the firmware, if available. Update the router firmware for seamless connectivity.

Check Downstream and Upstream Power Levels

How to Use a Router as WiFi Extender: A Comprehensive Guide

Living in a big house can give you some unique challenges. There can be several WiFi dead zones that leave your work completely interrupted. All you can do is use the router as an extender.

In this blog, we are going to take a look at the steps on how you can use your router as a wifi extender. By doing so, you can boost your signal to the other ends of the house. As a result, you will have no WiFi coverage issues.

However, the first thing you need to know is how to configure your router to extend its WiFi signal. This is otherwise known as Bridge mode or Repeater mode.

Now, before using the router as a WiFi extender, make sure it has Bridge or Repeater mode. Not all routers have this capability.

Steps to Use Router as WiFi Extender

  • Turn on the router and make sure it has WiFi signals
  • Update router firmware with the latest security features
  • Log in to the router’s admin settings
  • Go to the Wireless settings of the router and select Repeater mode

Keep note that the exact phase may differ depending on the router model. So, it may otherwise be called Repeating mode, Wireless Bridge mode, Extender mode, or Repeater mode.
  • Go to the WiFi network and connect to it using Username and Password

Depending on the router model, the configuration steps may vary. You may be asked to give the Router’s IP address, admin information, and WiFi network login information.
  • Save the changes
  • Reboot the router, and your WiFi extender will work accordingly
  • Now place the router in the location where you want to extend the WiFi signal
  • Connect the device to this extended network to make sure that it works effectively

So, when you use router as WiFi extender, it may reduce the overall speed, but your house will be free of dead zones by extending and boosting your WiFi coverage.

Can Another Router be used as a WiFi extender?

Yes

If you have a spare router at home, you can use that router as an extender via an Ethernet cable. Although the steps may vary depending on the router model, the general process is the same.

In this section, let’s look at the common steps for extending Wifi signals using a router

Steps to Turn Router as Extender

  • Update router firmware, especially if you have an old router at home
  • Connect the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port of your older router
Router WAN Port
  • Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the WAN port to use it as a WiFi extender
  • Login to the admin settings using the IP address and login information
  • Go to the router’s wireless settings and then select AP mode
  • Apply, Confirm, or Save the settings

Choosing this will make your router an access point for the internet connection and extend WiFi beyond the main range.

Now, don’t let those dead zones disrupt your work. Repurposing your router as a WiFi extender is a practical solution to expand your network reach. Just follow the outlined steps and maximize WiFi coverage instantly.

10 Quick Steps to Configure Netgear Orbi Outdoor Satellite

Have you been facing connectivity issues? Are you dealing with a poor network? This is not a unique issue, and sometimes this is due to the Orbi outdoor satellite. Sometimes, the satellite is not properly placed. At other times, there are some other issues that your router might be facing.

In today’s blog, we will be exploring the step-by-step guide to Netgear Orbi Outdoor satellite configuration. By learning about the steps, you can simply do it all by yourself, and you don’t have to rely on anyone or call a technician.

Let’s explore further.

What is the Netgear Orbi Outdoor Satellite?

It is a device used for extended WiFi coverage and increased signal strength. The purpose is to increase the connectivity of the network so that if you go outside the house, let’s say to the backyard, you can still get the connectivity right away.

However, it is not an actual device but a device that is placed within the reach of the network coverage. You don’t need to worry about a storm or hurricane because the device is completely weatherproof. So, there will be no interruptions in the functions of the satellite. As a result, once you install the device, you will get an additional 2,500 square feet of additional coverage.

Netgear Orbi Outdoor Satellite Router Setup Steps

1. Place the Orbi outdoor satellite in the ideal location, especially within the reach of the Orbi satellite or Orbi router

2. Connect the satellite to the power outlet using the power adapter. Make sure your device is outside for extended coverage.

3. The satellite LED light will be on. Wait for the LED light to turn white, then it is ready to use.

4. Open the device connected to the WiFi and connect to the Orbi network. Type the default network name or SSID.

(You can find the default network name or SSID printed on the router label if you have not changed it.)

5. Open the web browser and type orbilogin.com, or you can also use the default address, 192.168.1.1.

8. Follow the on-screen setup wizard, which typically includes scanning nearby Orbi devices. Once it detects the outdoor satellite, you will need to select it.

9. Press the sync button on the outdoor satellite device, and the device will sync with your Orbi network.

10. Then, your satellite will be connected and configured to your network. It may take a few minutes.

Finally, once you are done with these simple 10 steps, ensure that the device is connected to the satellite for extended connectivity.
